Car service in Coburg North

The regular oil, filter and inspection job that keeps a car reliable between the big bills. All makes, at 1/87 Newlands Road.

Kia Sorento, Toyota Camry, Audi A4 and Volkswagen Golf being worked on across the workshop floor

Every car needs one, whether or not there is still a logbook to stamp. A car well past its warranty still wants fresh oil, clean filters and someone looking at the brakes before the pads get thin.

You get a quote before work starts and a phone call before anything extra is touched. Nothing lands on the invoice that you have not agreed to first.

What a service actually includes

The list is set by the car in front of us, its age and how it gets driven. On a typical service here we do the following.

  • Engine oil drained and replaced, with a new oil filter
  • Air and cabin filters checked, and replaced when they are due
  • Brake pads, discs, lines and handbrake travel inspected
  • Tyre tread, wear pattern and pressures, spare included
  • Coolant, brake fluid, steering and washer fluid checked and topped up
  • Battery tested, belts, hoses, lights and wipers looked over
  • A road test, then a plain written report on anything that needs attention

Castrol oil goes in to the grade your engine calls for. We are a Castrol partner, so the oil is chosen for the engine rather than whatever happens to be open on the bench.

Logbook or basic, and how to tell

If the car is still inside its new car warranty, book the logbook service. That one follows the schedule the manufacturer wrote, and the book gets stamped, so the warranty stays exactly where it is.

If the warranty ran out years ago and the book is full, a basic service usually makes more sense. Same oil, same filters, same inspection, without paying for items a schedule lists for a car that is no longer new.

Not sure which one you are due for? Give us the make, model and the kilometres showing on the dash when you book and we will tell you before you arrive.

Signs your car is due

  • Twelve months since the last one, whatever the kilometres
  • The windscreen sticker reading has come and gone
  • Oil on the dipstick is black and runs thin
  • The engine feels flat on a hill it used to climb
  • Oil spots where the car has been parked
  • A long drive coming up

How a service day runs

  1. Tell us the car

Make, model and the kilometres on the dash. That is enough for us to quote the right job before you leave home.

  2. Leave it with us

Weekday drop offs from 8:00am, Saturdays from 9:00am. There is a lounge if waiting suits you better than two trips.

  3. We ring before extras

Anything the inspection turns up is a phone call with a price, not a surprise at the counter.

  4. Back on the road

Itemised invoice, the old parts to look at if you want them, and a note of what to watch before the next visit.

What it costs

There is no single price, because a four cylinder hatch and a European SUV do not take the same oil, the same filters or the same hours. Ring the workshop on 03 7054 8232 with the make, model and kilometres and you get a figure before you commit to anything.

Why drivers come back

We are an independent workshop, a VACC member and a Castrol partner, and you talk to the person who worked on the car rather than a service desk relaying messages.

All makes are welcome here, European and prestige included. The way a job is quoted, and the phone call before anything extra is fitted, does not change with the make.

Common questions

How often should I service my car?
Most cars want a service every twelve months or at the kilometres the maker sets, whichever comes first. Short trips, heavy traffic and towing are harder on oil than open road driving, so a car that only does school runs still needs the yearly visit even with low kilometres.
Can you service my car if I bought it somewhere else?
Yes. Where the car was sold makes no difference to who is allowed to service it afterwards. Bring it in with the logbook if it came with one, and we pick the schedule up from wherever it was left off. If there is no book at all, we start a written record for you from this service onwards.
Will you tell me what needs doing before you do it?
Always. The inspection finds what it finds, and you get a phone call naming the item, the reason it matters and the cost. You decide what goes ahead today and what can wait until the next visit. Nothing extra is fitted to your car before you have said yes to it.
Is a service on a European car a different job?
The inspection is the same; the detail around it is not. Those engines usually call for an oil carrying a specific manufacturer approval rather than just a viscosity grade, and most of them need the service interval reset electronically afterwards so the dash stops counting down. Both are part of the job here rather than an add on.

Overdue for a service? Tell us the kilometres and we will quote it.
