Brake repairs in Coburg North
Squealing, grinding, a soft pedal or a shudder under the brakes. Book it in and we will measure what is left before you spend anything.

Brakes are the one system on a car that has no tolerance for waiting. They wear slowly, then they get expensive quickly, because a pad worn through takes the disc with it.
Every brake job here starts with measurement. Pad thickness, disc thickness and runout, fluid condition and the handbrake, all written down so you can see how much life is left rather than taking a word for it.
What the noise is telling you
- A high squeal that stops when you brake harder
- A grinding sound, metal on metal
- The pedal going further down than it used to
- A shudder through the wheel when slowing from speed
- The car pulling to one side under braking
- The brake or handbrake warning light on
- A smell like burnt carpet after a hilly drive
Most brake jobs are pads, and the rest of the system decides how they feel
Pads are the usual answer, sometimes pads and discs together. Everything around them decides whether the new ones feel right, so it all gets checked. One noise is the exception to the booking queue: metal on metal means the friction material has gone and the backing plate is cutting the disc, so stop driving it and ring us.
- Front and rear pads, matched to how the car is driven
- Discs replaced or measured and skimmed where there is thickness to spare
- Calipers freed off, sliders cleaned and greased, seized calipers replaced
- Brake fluid tested for moisture and flushed when it is due
- Flexible hoses and hard lines checked for cracking, rust and swelling
- Handbrake cables adjusted or replaced, drum brakes stripped and cleaned
- Wheel bearings and suspension checked when the symptom points that way
A shudder is usually blamed on warped discs, and often it is not the disc at all. Uneven pad deposits, a sticking caliper or a worn suspension bush can produce the same feeling, and swapping discs without checking those means the shudder comes back.
From drop off to pick up
Wheels off, everything measured
Pads, discs, fluid, hoses and handbrake. You get numbers, not an opinion.
You see what we see
We show you the worn part or send a photo, with what is safe for now and what is not.
Quoted, then fitted
Price agreed first. Parts go on clean, with sliders serviced and everything torqued properly.
Bedded in and road tested
New pads and discs need a proper bed in. We do that on the road test and tell you how to treat them for the first few hundred kilometres.
What brake work costs
The price turns on one decision, pads only or pads and discs together, and that is settled by a measurement rather than by a look. So we measure first and quote before anything comes off the car. Ring 03 7054 8232 with the make and model if you want an idea before you book.
Where the car has thickness left in the discs we will say so. Replacing parts that still have real life in them is not our idea of a good invoice.
Why bring brakes here
We are an independent VACC member workshop on Newlands Road, and brakes are on the service board out the front, so this is core work here rather than a sideline.
AutoworkX is not a licensed roadworthy tester, so we do not issue certificates. What we do is the repair work a car needs to pass, and we are straight with you about which items are safety and which are wear.
